I have just learned that one of our VARA family members, Joe Siam was the victim of a terrible act of violence yesterday while attending the Granada Hills Church Festival, where he was shot by a 22 caliber rifle in the chest. He is currently at Holy Cross in San Fernando and is expected to recover. He will be there a few days and he and his family need your thoughts and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery. Joe was a random victim and the the Suspect is in custody. Joe, Dan and I have you in our thoughts and prayers! Get well soon!

I visited Joe yesterday afternoon and he is in good spirits . I know he will be pleased to see how his extended family , VARA , has reacted to this terrible thing . Joe's courage and strength is carrying him through this . His sense of humor is still intact and his recovery appears to have already hit full speed . With the prayers of Joe's family and friends behind him he will fully recover . _________________ pat kneip

OK, I just spoke with Joe, who is up walking around the hospital and giving the nurses a hard time.
He is expected to be released in a couple of days and - miraculously - will not need any major surgery.
He sounded great all things considered, just a bit tired, but with his same old sense of humor intact.
Joe and his big extended family of friends have literally dodged a bullet.
Hopefully, he will have learned his lesson and will stick to safe activities like racing, rather than risky stuff like church fairs!
Gina is handling it all well, and will need your prayers, as she is going to have to put up with Joe at home for a few weeks.
Get well soon, Joseph!!
