If I can offer an endorsement of Mike's car:
At Las Vegas two years ago, I was debating moving from my Spit to a Lotus. Mike, ever the gentleman, came over and offered to let me take his Lotus out in the next practice session - a very gracious gesture.
I took it out and was hooked and ended up buying Mal Stuart/Ted Carden's fat (1475 lb) Elan. Mike's car is a 1770 cc, Teds was about the same, but I took it back to production specs of 1598 cc so it could run CP legally.
A 1598 can do a 1:36 at Willow and a 1:44 at Laguna Seca (where it started 29th after a mechanical and finished 5th last April). With Mike's 1770 and a 4.11, you are looking at noticeably faster times that should, in the hands of a reasonably decent driver, allow you to run with the front of CP3 (which is a pretty fast crowd). My Elan has 167 BHP in the 7000-8000 range and weighs 1475 lbs, and Mike's has 230 BHP at 1430 lbs, so we are talking a very quick car there.
My point to all this is if you want a car you can win with, as opposed to one that is fun to drive and finishes mid-pack, I suspect Mike's car definitely has that potential.
An Elan is exceptionally fun and responsive car, and anyone in DP-EP-FP who is looking for a change will get a real kick out of the car.
Tom
P.S. I paid $25K for my Elan to give you a market comp on fully race prepared Elans. _________________ Tom Mullaney
