Big Bore Bash.

Big Bore Bash.

Postby Alan Berry on Mon Nov 02, 2009 5:25 pm

Last year (2008) at the Big Bore Bash the CS Group was the last group to go out, so we were the last run group of the year. How come we're the last group again?? Isn't it someone else's turn to close down the year?

At least you guys aren't stuck with CP. I almost done rebuilding my car and am considering dropping a 1600 in it so I can run with you guys instead of BS/CP.

All Run Groups are posted, DS/DS1 are Group 2. You can see the exact time schedule on the home page.

Thanks Alan, that is where I ran before and is what I suspected, it's just not specifically listed. Is it the term "Historic" that I should be looking for? I do know how to read the schedule :~)

Magpie,

As a DS or DS1 car you'll always be in the Group with the VEEs, small motor Spits etc. It lists FP, GP, FV and others but DS/DS1 would be in there as well (they just ran out of space to list all the classes). Just my 2 cents but I think that is the best Group for you for now. When you start murdering the field in that Group it's time to move into the CS Group. I prefer the faster group as there is always a way larger field and the competition is better. Also I simply can't see the VEEs and have major problems running production cars with open wheel cars. Not a good mix and sadly, I speak from experience.

A couple points from the peanut gallery:

Run group rotation, event to event or, at least year to year?

An all small bore tin top group...That would include BS, CS and, DS.

I have advocated this run group since the 80's...Haven't changed my mind.

Anthony, are you complaining about being able to race your car???

WOW...I see a lot of people complaining about it.. Remember it is supposed to be for fun. It shouldnt matter where you finish or who you run with... RIGHT?? :D

You guys have fun at Willow.

Rod, I'll see your Mini coming, don't worry and I"ll give you LOTS OF ROOM!!!! If I was pushed into you with the Meatball instead of my old Mini I don't even want to think about what your car would look like. Okay now...positive vibes only. OMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

YES!!! Group rotation year to year so everyone gets to be the last run group at each event.

I'm not sure what your lap times are at Willow but, the CS run group tends to range from around 1:38's to the high 1:50's with a the rare faster/ slower car. As I recall when Alan and I ran in your group we were turning around 1:45 or so on average. The fastest CS is hovering around 1:40 with at least a 1:39 by one of the 2 litre BMW's a while back. Average for the faster CS cars is still about 1:42.

All this info and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee at Denney's. What I mean is, if you want to run in Group 6, I see no reason you cannot as long as your lap times are in the normal range. I started in DS (as did many other Mini pilots) and moved to CS after the crash in '03...I DO NOT like running with open wheel cars, especially Vees!

I don't like running with open wheel cars either. My last race at WSIR my lap times were around 2 min but we had 40 mph gusty head winds down the front straight. I would hit 5900 rpm down the back straight and lucky to hit 5000 rpm down the front straight. My biggest improvements need to come in turn 1 and turn 3. I should improve turn 1 this weekend but It will take my new close ratio gears and final drive that I will install this winter to get much better in turn 3. Maybe CS1 next year.
