race numbers

race numbers

Postby alfapwr on Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:23 pm

The regs call for 10 inch numbers on the sides and front of a car. Can the front numbers be smaller? I have space issues with the graphics on the car.

Thanks !

Dan-
Yeah the Numbers on the front are allowed to be smaller-
I would suggest you give the VARA Office a call to make sure the number you want is available-

Heres what the numbers should be .....and ....

Postby Jerry Bernhiemer on Wed Mar 25, 2009 9:04 am

Nunbers should be 10" high minimum on each side of the car, and easily read from a distance. 1" minimum stroke.

On wing plates acceptable in open wheel.

All cars must have numbers on front, minimum 6" high and 1" stroke minimum. Easily read from a distance.

Car CLASS letters/numbers on each side of the car adjacent to the car number. Can be smaller, also easily read from 30 feet.

VARA DECAL/STICKER is requred on each side of every car.

Tech will be stepping up enforcement of these items.

I have run with VARA for fourteen years. The rule was 8 inch numbers same as SCCA. I do not know or care when the rules changed. We as every one else are suffering from low car count at races. Why not suggest 10 inches but except legal numbers from clubs like our SCCA brothers. Some off us have ben visiting our brother racers at thier events to promote cross pollenation of our mutal love of the sport. There are quite a few life long racers that due to the march of time they and thier cars have become vintage. These racers have developed strong bonds to thier race buddies and club as we have to ours. We have ben promoting VARA as a club with the compeditive rules frozen in time. The need to continually upgrading to remain compeditive is the main discord for those looking to give us a try. Please, make these racers feel welcome. Look at the small differences between us and adopt a policy that allows seamless sharing of love for the sport. Many have said they would like to run with us at events like British Extravaganza but thier cars have ben updated and we won't let them in. I tell them we would love to see them at any of our events. I tell them that if thier cars have updates that are not vintage to call the office and ask to run with an X on the car. Don't make me a lier, please.
