Jerry B.
Is the new style AFFF fire extinquisher made by FireCharger acceptable to VARA Tech. The reason I ask is that the bottle does not have any gauge regarding bottle pressure. Due to the design of this type system, the bottle is not pressure charged, but relies on a CO2 cartridge to pressurize system when activated by driver. I currently have one of these new systems and want to use as my old Halon unit has been discharged (error-not need!) Thanks for any info provided----Larry Payton

Larry- I have been using that same fire system for about 5 years with VARA. Sometimes during tech I unscrew the cartridge to show them it has not been pierced. So they know the pressure is good. _________________ Thanks,

Jerry-
As I finish up the restoration of my new Zink C4 Formula Vee, I too am looking to purchase the FireCharger 2.3L AFFF system. To re-ask the question, is it ok? I am especially curious if the capacity of the system (2.3L) is acceptable. Thanks - Rene Gimenez

Fire Charger AFF System
The 2.3 L system is acceptable in any car. Use 1 nozzle with each port (line). total of two.
With a Sedan or closed car (with larger area to cover) the larger system 4+ L might be a better choice and will support 3 or 4 nozzles.
Fire Charger suggests every two years to remove the system, fire it and replace the cartridge and rupture disc. and AFF. Lube the cable and blow down/check the lines also. There is no pressure gage on this type as it is non presurized until use. You want to look for seepage at the bottle head o-ring and at the threads in the firing cartridge. If seepage recharge the unit.
Follow the instructions with the system. I suggest you keep a copy of the instructions with any fire system especially AFF because of the variety of these systems nozzle # and placement etc.
Recharge kits are inexpensive and field fillable.

the Fire Charger AFF 2.3 Liter system is fine in any car. 2 nozzles, one on each port.
The larger 4L system would be better on a Sedan or large closed car. 3 nozzles .
Any sepage from the bottle head or from the firing cartridge indicates system must be emptied and recharged. There is no gage as the system is only pressurized when fired. Visual inspection is only way.
Follow the instructions and keep them withg the car for reference. Any AFF system you should keep a copy of the inst. with the car due to variables in nozzle numbers and orientation. Didn't keep the paperwork? Download at Pack's site.
F.C. recommends a bottle tear down and refill every two years due to corrosion dirt etc. new cartridge, AFF and rupture disc. kits are cheap. Get extra o-ring(s) as they are not in the "kit". Re lube the cable core and blow down the lines also.
