It's my opinion that the SFI approval is not a factor....as there is some politics involved. if VARA does mandate, either next year or down the road, I can envision "any commercially availiable H/N"wil be allowed as many of the other clubs now rules say. But I am only the messenger on this deal.

The clearance issue has been well discussed over at Apex and there is some suggested fixes there also. Its just like a helmet or a pair of gloves....you have to try it on before buying and also sit IN the car.

Price, color, appearance, availiability, ease of exit and FIT and COMFORT pretty much in that order.

After reading those posts and getting sold on the Defender as an effective piece with some proprietary benefits, I saw a post from a guy with an F1-style helmet and very reclined FF2000 car (or some modern open wheel car) and said it worked great. So I figured I'd be golden. But just goes to show, if you can try something on for size, first, do it.

Now, there's an understatement :)

Interesting order of priority. Just goes to show you that not all "GREAT MINDS" ;) think alike.

I want the 1) best sled performance, 2) safest (least likely to delay my exit or dump my belts) 3)fit and comfort 4) price and 5) appearance----I don't care how cool looking something they take off my broken neck is, nor do I care how ugly something is that just saved my arse.

Pen; It takes a bit of practice but it can be done quite easily by yourself. The helmet mount has better protection numbers, but I went with the strap attachment.
